Take up Cycling

Save the environment, your health and your money

Cycling is a good way of saving money, helping the environment and keeping fit - all at the same time. Almost anyone of any fitness level is capable of cycling the 1-2 miles to the local shops, to work or to the pub. Cycling just two miles a day will provide about the recommended daily minimum exercise If you are thinking of taking up cycling you may need a bike - and these come in 3 main varieties. It is best to consider the merits of these before purchasing. The two types most suitable for the novice are likely to be a hybrid or a mountain bike

Mountain Bikes

These are extremely tough -but probably over-rated. They are often brought when other types of bike may be more suitable and more comfortable. As a bike they have a heavy frame and large tires designed to allow then to survive the perils of rough trails. The downside of this is that they are generally not very comfortable - and the large tires mean they are hard work on roads

Hybrids/City Bikes

These bikes are a compromise between a mountain bike and a tourer. They have full size frames, comfortable saddles and a large number of gears. They often provide the best solution for everyday use They are also capable of handling all but the roughest of trails and bridleways
Halfords sell a large range of cycles and accessories both online and through their stores
