Let In The Light
A brighter future for yourself and the planet
Windows have a wonderful property of letting in both light and heat - with
the sun providing the best source of both - and it's free. Natural heat and light from the sun
can significantly decrease both your heating and lighting bills - especially in a well insulated home.

Keep Windows Clean
Clean windows not only look better - but they also work better. They can let in twice the light and heat of dirty windows
and all it required is a bucket of water and a sponge.
Don't obstruct the windows
Try to avoid net curtains where possible - as these stop
both heat and light entering. Also try to avoid putting buildings
such as sheds in the way of windows.
Build a conservatory
Building a conservatory on the south side of a house can have
a very significant impact - especially if it covers the whole
height of the outside wall. Instead of being close to freezing
in the winter the temperature of the outside wall can easily
be in the high teens. During the night the extra layer of trapped
air can significantly reduce the heating bill. A conservatory
can also be useful for drying clothes in the winter - saving
on both energy - and on wear and tear on the clothes |
